Hand Embroidery Lessons

Learn how to sew by hand for both decorative and practical purposes.

2 hours =$60 for personalized one on one instruction once a week. {Can accommodate groups of 3-5 people. Call for group pricing.}

For these classes I will provide a beginner kit consisting of:

  • 1 embroidery needle
  • A small sampler kit of floss colors (colors will vary)
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Fabric

Student(s) are required to bring their own scissors.

Here is a basic outline of beginner level classes:

  1. Getting to know your basic supplies. Learn about tools fabric, thread, yard, ribbon, preparing thread, needles, starting and stopping sewing, button sewing, mend a small tear or seam rip, running stitch, simple shape(s).
  2. Start a sampler. Stitches will include: seed, back stitch, stem, satin, straight and whipstitch.
  3. Continue working on your sampler. Stitches will include blanket, chain, lazy daisy and feather.
  4. Complete working on your sampler. Stitches will include french knot, bullion knot, spider web stitch and woven bar stitch.

Students will have a choice of completing either a traditional flat fabric sampler you can frame or a small fabric book that you can use as a needle holder and stitch reference.

Each class will include examples (via in person, books or online) and discussion of various hand embroideries from around the world.


One on One Machine Sewing Lessons

Did you just get a sewing machine or have one taking up space in a closet? Let me help you learn to use your machine.

1 hour =$25 for personalized one on one instruction once a week {Can accommodate groups of 2-3 people. Call for group pricing.}

Here is a basic outline of beginner level classes:

  1. Intro sewing machine: getting to know your machine, threading, bobbin winding, stitches, maintenance.

  2. Make a pillowcase, tablecloth or napkins: straight sewing, seams and hemming.

  3. Measurements and working from a pattern (reading, pinning, cutting, etc.).

  4. Simple sewing project (I will give you ideas as we see how you progress) some examples of choices would be a simple bag, cardigan or wrap skirt.

  5. Continue work on project.

  6. Closures: Buttons, zippers, hook & eyes, snaps, hand sewing

I will give you supply lists for each class ahead of time.
I will provide you with links and notes after each class.
I will provide you with a list of resources and online tools.
Payments are due at the beginning of each class.
If you need to make up a class we will make arrangements but please don't miss a class unless due to emergency or illness.
My schedule is very full so please be on time for your lesson and come prepared with all the materials needed.

Come enjoy a mornng out. Make something creative and learn a new skill or technique.

All skill levels welcome and encouraged.

$10 per person for one craft that we will work on together. They are small enough to be completed in the class time.

Classes are limited 5-7 people so register early.

Adults only.

Desert for breakfast (and brunch) will be served. Drinks will be provided.

FINE PRINT STUFF: In the future we will be having teen, kids and multi-generational classes. We have plans to one day have an offsite classroom.

Food allergies? Please let me know ahead of time. Unfortunately, we can not accomodate all allergies.

Cat allergies? We have cats but they do not particpate in the crafting sessions. They will be in a separate room during our class. If you are sensitive we can not provide a cat free environment at this time.

No wheelchair access at this time.

No sharing of crafts. The fee is per person.

December 2011 -- Decorate Your Wrist

Saturday the 10th from 9 am - 12 pm

You decorated your house, yard and tree, now take a step back and make a unique, wearable decoration just for you using fabric and ribbon.
